I’ve been asked a few times how I did the screen captures in my post Techie Tip – Embedding Google Forms. I used Jing by TechSmith, it is free to download and use. I’m sure there are many different tools available to do this but I really like Jing as it quick and easy to use.
I have Jing setup so it is loaded when my computer starts up. Jing appears a as a ½ sun on the edge your desktop so it is always available. You can move it around as required.
Jing allows for easy capture of a portion of your desktop by clicking on the ‘+’ icons shown below.
Once you click on the ‘+’ , you select the part of your screen that you want to capture, adjust the size then select “capture”. At this point you are able to add arrow and text information.
When you are happy with your layout, name your image, select the ‘save’ icon, and you image will be saved in PNG format.
Jing also provides the ability to make 5 minutes videos which can be shared via Screencast.com to different social media site. Camtasia, by TechSmith, integrates with Jing to make MP4 videos that can then be posted to YouTube. I won’t recommend the video capture unless you have Camtasia because you are limited to the sharing via Screemcast.
That is it, easy to do. How can you use screen captures in your marketing and/or blog posts? What other tools do you use?
I love to see entrepreneurs follow their passions, serve more people and create the lifestyle of their dreams.
